DR. APPLEBY

Dies in a Local Hospital after Two Weeks’ Illness of Complication of Diseases.

Dr. James C. Appleby, a well known veterinary surgeon of this city, passed away at 4 o’clock Saturday morning in a local hospital after a two weeks’ illness. The deceased man was 35 years old.

Dr. Appleby is survived by his widow, Mrs. Fannie L. Appleby, and three sons. The sons are Robert, Albert, and Gordon Appleby, all living at home.

The deceased man was a member of Adelphi Lodge No. 8,
I. O. O. F., and was well known throughout the county.

Dr. Appleby came to this city from Brownsville, Pa., five years ago and in that time he had made a host of friends who were shocked to hear of his death.

TROOPER DIES FROM SPINAL MENINGITIS

EL PASO, Tex., Jan. 08– One member of the Eighth Ohio Infantry has died and one other soldier of the same command is sick with spinal meningitis, according to Colonel Edward Volrath, of this regiment.

Private Robert Appleby of the headquarters company of the Eighth Infantry died at six o’clock this morning.

Private Appleby had been ill two days. He was attached to Brigadier General John C. Speaks’ headquarters and the enlisted men of General Speaks’ headquarters company have been quarantined.

Private Appleby enlisted from Akron, but his home was given as Clarksburg, W. Va. Private Robert Jenkins, of Company F,  Eighth Ohio, is sick with the same disease. He has been ill for two days. He also enlisted from Akron. His condition was reported to be improved today. Company F. has been quarantined.

CLARKSBURG. Jan. 10.–Mrs. Fannie Appleby, 627 West Pike Street, received word this afternoon that her son, Robert Appleby, a soldier on the Mexican border, had died of spinal meningitis near El Paso, Texas.

He was a member of the headquarters company of the Eighth Ohio Infantry, in which he enlisted last May.

His body will be brought here.

CLARKSBURG, W. Va., Jan. 9.–Mrs. Florence Appleyby, of West Pike street, received word this afternoon that her son, Robert, had died of spinal meningitis near El Paso, Texas, where he was a member of the Eighth Ohio Infantry, doing patrol service along the Mexican border.

His body will be brought here.
