The Clarksburg Telegram., August 06, 1897
Died, at her home near Wilsonburg, July 12, 1897, Elizabeth A., wife of Thomas Payne, aged 73 years.
Elizabeth was the daughter of Hugh Thompson, deceased, and was born and raised at the old Thompson homestead, near Wolf Summit.
She was married to her now bereaved husband in 1853.
She was a kind and loving wife, and a loving mother to her two children, Mrs. M. D. Stuart and Mrs. R. A. Garrett, of this city. She remembered the Creator in the days of her youth and gave herself into His keeping at the age of 14 years.
Most of her life was spent in suffering, but sometime before her death her health seemed better than usual, and her friends hoped that she might be spared to them a little longer, but suddenly God said come home my child, where you will have no more trials, no more sorrows, no more sufferings, and she obeyed His call, passing into the great beyond peacefully and calmly, to be forever with her loved ones gone on before her.
To the aged husband so well known throughout the county, her children, step-children and all other relatives and friends.
I commend you to look to Him, the great healer of all our wounds, and let us try to emulate her Christian character so that when our time shall come it may be said of us the same as the dear one just gone—
”Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. They rest from their labors and their works do follow them.”
