BRIDGEPORT, Feb. 18.— Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon from the Methodist Protestant church for Mrs. Elizabeth Blackwell, 85, who died at 6 o’clock this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Utt, on Mechanic street, of paralysis.

The Rev. Creed Yoak, pastor, will officiate and interment will be made in the Clarksburg Odd Fellows’ cemetery.

Born in Ayrshire, Scotland, March 4, 1847, Mrs. Blackwell came with her parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Herron to America when she was two years old. They settled at what was known later as the Elkhill mine just east of Clarksburg and she was reared there.

Mrs. Blackwell was the widow of Enoch Foley Blackwell, a Union veteran of the Civil war, who died January 22, 1923. He was a member of Company E, Twelfth West Virginia Volunteer Infantry, and saw service all through the war. She had lived at Bridgeport forty-seven years and was a member of the local Methodist Episcopal church all that time.

Only two of her seven sons and daughters survive. They are Mrs. Berha Utt, wife of John Utt, Bridgeport, a widely known traveling pottery salesman and Thomas F. Blackwell, local grocer. A sister, Mrs. William Russell, of Barton, Md., also survives. There are eight grandchildren.

Frank Herron, a brother, died in Montana last Saturday but she never knew it.
