James Dunn, an aged resident of Clarksburg, died at his home on East Main Street at 7 o’clock Friday morning, after an extended illness. He was in the eightieth year of his age, and his death was due chiefly to the infirmities incident to old age.

His children had been summoned to his bedside the earlier part of the week. His condition was alarming then, and his death Friday morning was not altogether unexpected.

He was a native of England. He came to this country during the early sixties, and located in North Carolina, where afterwards he was interested in gold mining concerns there. He afterwards moved to Clarksburg, and has since resided here.

The deceased was an upright, honorable and representative citizen. He was a firm believer in Christianity and was for years a communicant, of the Methodist church.

He leaves four children, namely, Miss Anna Dunn, of this city; James Dunn, of Sutton, W. Va.; Richard Dunn, of Wheeling, and John Dunn, of New York state.

He was married to a Miss Pike, a sister of the late Richard Pike. She died about a year ago.

The funeral will be conducted Sunday afternoon at half past two o’clock. The funeral services will be held at the house, and the burial will be in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS.

Owing to the death of Mr. James Dunn, there are two substitute teachers in the central high schools. Miss May Annon is teaching for Miss Anna Dunn, and Mrs. W. E. Smith has charge of Miss Higley’s room. The latter resides at the home of the deceased.

The funeral of the late James Dunn took place yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the residence of his daughter, Miss Anna Dunn, East Main Street, and the interment was made in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.

Rev. S. K. Arbuthnot assisted by Revs. W. M. Hudson and Dr. Fullerton, conducted the funeral services. The local lodge of the Odd Fellows had charge of the obsequies of their deceased brother and attended the funeral in a body, accompanying the remains to their last resting place.

The pall bearers were John I. Alexander, E. W. Williams, P. M. Long, Harrison Fletcher, John T. Griffin, R. E. Post, John R. Steele, Charles F. Thompson, J. H. Paugh and Lloyd Nutter.

Cemetery Sketch

The services were attended by numerous friends of the family. The deceased was born in Carlrarick, England, July 28, 1824. He came to North Carolina in 1849, and to Clarksburg in 1865, and was a resident of this city from that date to time of his death.
