Well Known Contractor and Builder Dies at His Mother’s Home in This City.
At the home of his mother, Mrs. Rowland Cobb, on Terra Cotta Street, John R. Cobb, well known contractor and builder, brother-in-law of Police Chief Richard Scott, lies dead. He passed away late Wednesday afternoon after a long illness with a complication of diseases.
The dearly departed was 35 years old and single. Surviving him are his mother, one brother, Joseph Cobb, of Mt. Carmel, Ill; and his sister, Mrs. Richard Scott.
Four weeks ago Mr. Cobb came here from San Antonio, Tex., where he had been for some time in the interest of his health. He was taken ill a year or so ago while at work on the ten story building that is being erected for the Union Trust Company at Little Rock, Ark., by Caldwell & Drake, contractors, with which firm he was employed. Mr. Cobb has worked on many large buildings in this and other states among them being some of the state buildings at Morgantown, the Camden opera house building at Parkersburg, and thirty-seven buildings, including the West Virginia building at the World’s fair St. Louis. He was a foreman for the contractors who built the World’s Fair structures.
The funeral will take place Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock with services at the home of Mrs. Cobb led by the Rev. J. E. Bird, pastor of Goff M. E. church. Burial will be in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.
